Want a heater in your RV? Then prepare to pay extra!

Over the years, I have been a collector of automotive sales literature and I recently came across this one for a 1963 Dodge motorhome which I thought might be of interest to you and/or your readers, as it is quite interesting.
It was priced at $9,500, had a 318 c.i. engine and most everything was an option including heater and defroster for the cab. (That was the way it was back in '63, remember?). They even charged you extra for the storage compartments underneath and had a gas light option (whatever that was).
How things have changed!

The gas light was usually placed over the table for those times that you didn't have electric hookups or a generator. At least that's where ours was.
Just think: if we has our present day dollars and those previous day prices, just what a palace on wheels we could have! No, wait! People were smaller, back then! NO Queen- or King-sized beds, no slide-outs, no satellite TV, no automatic steps, no tire monitors, nor rear vision screens, and then, there's their pitiful air-conditioning systems~~~~! Never Mind!
According to the Inflation Calculator that $9,500 in 1963 would be over $65,000 in today's dollars, so that was a pretty expensive motor home for it's day.
Gas lights were very popular in "early day" campers and motorhomes. I remember camping in some as a kid. It's hard to imagine with all of today's safety issues but in those days hookups were few-and-far-between.
I wouldn't mind one or two gas lights in my 2005 Nash...it would really save the batteries when boondocking.
George...older than I look. : )
