Pay to dump at Flying J
It was once a free, and popular service offered by Flying J Travel Centers -- free sanitary dump stations for RVers. But those free days are gone. It now costs RVers $10 to dump, or $5 with the Flying J Loyalty card, which is free at any Flying J fuel desk. Besides half price on dumping, the card offers up to a $2 a month savings on purchases of up to 100 gallons of gasoline, or $9 a month on purchases of diesel (300 gallons per month maximum). Propane is a dime per gallon cheaper with the card. The savings with the card on gas purchases, at today's prices, amounts to about half of one percent. There is still a charge to use WiFi at Flying J. Better choices are all Starbucks and McDonalds, where it's free. Flying J recently merged with Pilot Travel Centers: the RV card is accepted at either place.

Flying J has also temporarily dropped the cash price at the fuel island (both big pumps and RV pumps) using the RV card. That was the most significant savings offered by the card. It is hoped they will reinstate it soon. Until then you have to go to the website and check it's status before hitting the road.
just returned from a trip (OK-MO-IL-IN-MI-OH-PA)...the 3 or 4 Flying J's where we dumped charged us $3 with the loyalty card (rang up as $10 less a $7 credit)...don't know why
In Jackson Hole they charge $10 to dump at a private campground which includes taking on fresh water. If your only cost is $10 a week for dumping then it's pretty cheap living.
We used a Flying J in the Rapid City area two days ago, and the dumping was still free there.
The "free" wifi at McDonalds is only free if you have an ATT account. All others must pay.
No, that's not true about the WiFi at McDonalds. It used to be that you needed an AT&T account, but now the WiFi is open and free to everyone. Same with Starbucks -- open to everyone, no charge.
We have used McDonalds 'free' WiFi from Alaska to California and have had no problem and we do not have an ATT account.
We recently bought diesel fuel at the Flying J near Bakersfield, CA. The cash price was listed at $3.239 per gallon, but we were charged $3.209 per gallon on our credit card. We don't know if this is a new policy or a cashier mistake - we didn't ask.
We've stopped using Flying J. The services they offered RV's is what kept us always looking to do business with them. When I went to the closest one to our home (Where I always go to refill everything when we get home)Filled up the motorhome tank with diesel, filled the 30 gal. LP tank, filled the minivan we were towing, then was going to be charged $10 for dumping, that put the end to ALL my business with them. The only thing I cannot get at many other stations is "Dumping". I drive a lot of extra miles to spend my money there because of that service. Now I just make sure we're staying at a campgrounds occasionally that has full hookups or at least elec. and a dumping station. Adios Flying J. Piolt shouldn't have been so greedy when they bought the Flying "J"s. My stops cost me about $250-$300 each. That's not chicken feed when you multiply it out by the number of RVers using their chain. Greed isn't always a good thing.
Paying for dumping fees is a cost we all must face. The biologic load that RV black tanks places on the next place that the potty water goes to is getting higher. Think about it, when your at your house, your blak water and grey water all get mixed up, along with all your neighbors. When that "stuff" hits the potty plant, its mixed and diluted. When you live in your RV, you micromanage your water consumption, and what you dump is pretty concentrated stuff. The cost of discharging this stuff is getting higher and costs have to be borne by the end user, you and me. So suck up, its a lifestyle we have chosen to get into and its not free.
Try welcome center some stiil have free dumping. Bye Flying J
